A Change of Command is a time honored ceremony which marks the moment when the responsibility of command is passed from the current commander to the incoming commander.
Florida Wing conducted a Change of Command at the Florida Wing Conference banquet held at the Tampa Marriott Water Street on July 24th. Col. Andrea Van Buren, Southeast Region Commander, presided over the ceremony in which Col. Luis Garcia relinquished command and Col. Luis Negron assumed command of the wing.
During the Commander's Call-to-Prayer this morning at the virtual national conference, Maj. Gen. (select) Edward Phelka, CAP, the in-coming national commander for #CivilAirPatrol, announced that he has selected Chaplain (Colonel - select) Linda Pugsley to be the next Chief of Chaplains. She will assume her new rank and position at the change of command on 26 August.
Maj. Gen. (select) Edward D. Phelka will assume command of Civil Air Patrol the morning of Aug. 26 in his home state of Michigan. Phelka and newly appointed National Vice Commander Brig. Gen. (select) Regena Aye will be sworn in during a private change of command ceremony in Detroit limited in attendance because of COVID-19 precautions.
A video of the ceremony will be available to members and the public at 7 p.m. Central on CAP's YouTube Channel. A link to the video will be sent out Thursday.
